Here are some ideas for plants to grow that encourage wildlife to enter your garden:
Sunflower (Helianthus) – A colourful flower and it provides a buffet of seeds for birds as the season changes.
Thyme (Thymus) – This lovely herb provides excellent ground cover for beetles and other inverterbrate and bees love it’s nectar.
Lavender (Lavendula) – A beautiful scent and a magnet for bees, and when it goes to seed the birds can tuck in!
Honeysuckle (Lonicera) – In the summer this climber attracts the insects such as the hummingbird hawk moth and later birds such as thrushes and warblers enjoy it’s berries. Mice also use it to make their nests.
Ice plant (Sedum spectabile) – This plant provides a late nectar source for hoverflies, bees and butterflies.
Barberry (Berberis) – A great shelter for caterpillars and a nectar source for moths and butterflies.
