The Friends of Arkesden Church
The Friends of Arkesden was inaugurated 20 years ago for the purpose of raising funds to maintain the building and fabric of the church to keep it in good order. This can sometimes involve very large sums of money which can amount to several thousands of pounds as witnessed by the reroofing. Every 5 years the church undergoes a quinquenial inspection by the church architect and he advises the PCC of essential items that need remedying. The latest work which the FOA helped finance was rectifying the damp on the North wall. Examples of other projects that have been financed were the installation of water, and the erection of a new notice board.
The committee are not necessarily church goers but all have a shared interest in preserving this integral part of the village. The funds are raised by various means which have both financial and social benefits. Examples of some past fund raising activities include the Medieval Fayre, “Arkesden’s Got Talent”. A bridge tournament and musical concerts.
